Our goal is to be anticipatory, not reactionary, in reporting on the crucial issues of our time.
We want to look at where events are heading, not simply where they stand today. We want to provide real value for our viewers so that they can better understand what’s going on in our world and why.”
About Vanguard Page
Current TV, Vanguard Special
Vanguard is the Current TV network’s ground-breaking, investigative journalism programme broadcast on US cable and satellite TV as well as on the web at current.com.
The half hour programme reports on global issues, seeking out news and angles that the mainstream media tend to neglect or forget about. The Vanguard team of investigative journalists travel to many corners of the globe. Yemen, Saipan, Russia, Angola, Greenland, China and Sierra Leone are just some of the countries that the Vanguard correspondents have traveled to bring us the stories that needed telling. Many of the journalists are also bilingual or multilingual. Often the dedicated team travel to dangerous parts of the world risking their own lives to report on global issues.
This was the case earlier this year when Laura Ling and Euna Lee were detained in North Korea and sentenced to 12 years hard labour for entering the country illegally. They were pardoned and released after spending 140 days in prison after Bill Clinton held diplomatic talks with the North Korean leader. READ MORE from the Huffington Post
Vanguard also deals with crucial issues in America. More recently they have released a 3-part series on the recession in the US. WATCH : Lost Vegas, Thank You, Recession
“During this time when more and more people are turning away from traditional news outlets, Vanguard is stepping in to fill that void and offer a relevant alternative. This is journalism as adventure – exploring global issues and themes with a guerrilla-style approach, getting the facts on the ground and delivering them from authentic and relevant perspectives.
While every Vanguard report promises to be a wild adventure, at its core, Vanguard is honest, old-school, boots-on-the ground reporting.” (Vanguard)
Current TV is a US based independent media company, led by former US Vice President Al Gore and Joel Hyatt. One of the features of the channel is that it enables viewers to participate. With viewers and users able to post podcasts, video responses, comments and rate shows and programmes on the network.
Current TV makes good use of the multimedia tools available, utilizing Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, itunes, iGoogle, WordPress and coming soon to Adobe Media Player. It would be great if they had a bureau down here in New Zealand, we really need a network to engage with younger viewers and net users down here. Keep up the good work Current & Vanguard.
